CashAfrica partners ChamsSwitch to scale regulated rails for Nigeria’s contactless payments wave

CashAfrica, a contactless payment infrastructure provider, has strategically partnernered with ChamsSwitch, to advance the next phase of tap-to-pay adoption across Nigeria’s payment ecosystem.

Building deeper contactless infrastructure for Nigeria

Nigeria’s payments landscape is at an inflection point. Consumer demand for faster, simpler in-store digital payments is accelerating, while the regulatory environment continues to evolve with guidelines on contactless payments, switching services and payment service providers setting clearer expectations on compliance, security and interoperability.

The CashAfrica and ChamsSwitch partnership is structured to meet these expectations directly. ChamsSwitch brings a long-standing switching and processing licence, scheme integrations, and multi-channel payment capabilities built over years of operation within Nigeria’s financial infrastructure. CashAfrica brings the contactless experience layer, NFC rails that allow consumers to tap phones or contactless cards on ordinary PoS devices, reducing friction at the point of sale.

Under the partnership, CashAfrica will connect its NFC-based contactless payment infrastructure, including its CashTap solution, which already enables tap-to-pay experiences for partners such as PalmPay on existing point-of-sale devices, to ChamsSwitch’s regulated switching and processing rails. .

Together, the partnership creates a complete, compliant and interoparable contactless payment stack for any bank, fintech or partner that wants to enable tap-to-pay in Nigeria.

Commenting on the partnership, Malik Asamu – CEO, CashAfrica explained that the decision is strategic. “Our focus at CashAfrica has always been on building the infrastructure that makes tap-to-pay technology work seamlessly for everyday Nigerians. This partnership with ChamsSwitch adds a significant switching and processing backbone to that vision, allowing us to scale faster, operate deeper within the financial system, and deliver contactless payments in full alignment with Nigeria’s regulatory framework.”

“ChamsSwitch has been part of Nigeria’s payments infrastructure for years, and this partnership reflects our commitment to enabling the next generation of digital payment experiences. CashAfrica is building something real in the contactless space and we are proud to provide the regulated switching infrastructure that supports that growth”, as stated by ChamsSwitch CEO, Mudiaga Umukoro.

What this partnership enables

The combined infrastructure opens a path for a broader contactless adoption in the ecosystem, supporting Nigeria’s broader digital payments agenda.

For consumers, the impact will show up less in headlines and more at the point of sale: more banks and fintech apps able to support tap‑to‑pay on everyday PoS devices, more merchants who can accept those taps confidently, and faster, safer in‑store payment experiences.

For banks, fintechs and partners, the combination of CashAfrica and ChamsSwitch offers:

  • A contactless layer that is already being tested in the market with partners like PalmPay and other payment players looking to ignite NFC adoption in Nigeria.
  • A switching backbone that is already licensed, supervised and integrated with key schemes and payment channels, reducing regulatory and technical friction.
