Kano disburses N28.4m to fire disaster victims

The government of Kano State recently provided financial assistance amounting to N28.4 million to 62 individuals who were victims of a fire disaster in the state. The distribution of cash to the affected persons was announced by Governor Abba-Yusuf during the event. Represented by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hajiya Abdullahi, the governor highlighted that this gesture was part of the state government’s effort to alleviate the suffering of the victims. The Executive Secretary of Kano State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Isyaku Kubarachi, disclosed that the victims collectively lost property valued at N835.9 million. Among the beneficiaries, seven individuals lost their lives, with 11 victims from Dakata small scale benefiting from the government’s support. Kubarachi expressed gratitude to various organizations including the Nigeria Red Cross, National Emergency Management Agency, and others for their assistance. Furthermore, Dr. Nuraddeen Abdullahi, NEMA Coordinator in Kano Territorial Office, advised the public, especially women using firewood and charcoal, to handle fire cautiously to prevent accidents. In response, Ahmadu Sale, a beneficiary from Tudun Wada, Nassarawa local government, expressed gratitude on behalf of the recipients for the government’s help. He shared a tragic personal experience of losing family members in a fire incident caused by an electrical fault.
