The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, highlighted the importance of technical and vocational skills in addressing unemployment and promoting economic growth.
During the 2024 graduation ceremony of the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board, over 2,500 students graduated in disciplines such as engineering, ICT, and creative arts.
Speaking at the event in Ikeja, the governor emphasized the value of vocational training in preparing young people for the job market.
Sanwo-Olu stated, “Technical and vocational education plays a crucial role in equipping young individuals with practical skills that are relevant to the evolving economy.”
He mentioned that vocational education not only benefits individuals but also contributes to community development, reduces unemployment, and enhances global competitiveness. The governor noted that technical education improves graduation rates, employability, and entrepreneurial spirit.
Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to empowering youths through the Education and Technology aspect of the T.H.E.M.E.S.+ agenda.
“Investing in the skills of our youth lays the groundwork for a prosperous and self-reliant society,” he added.
He praised the partnership between the government, industries, and educational institutions, ensuring that vocational training meets international standards.
The governor encouraged the graduates to utilize their skills not just for personal gain but also for making a positive impact on society.
“Your skills are powerful tools for both personal success and societal transformation,” he advised the graduates.
