The Governor of Edo State recently swore in three judges who were previously overlooked during the previous administration’s swearing-in ceremony. This act was in line with the governor’s pledge to address past discrepancies. The National Judicial Council had recommended eight judges for the Edo State High Court, but only five were sworn in by the former governor, leaving out the three judges. The newly sworn-in judges were encouraged to uphold ethical standards, ensure fair justice, protect citizens’ rights, and prosecute offenders. The governor emphasized the importance of a fair and unbiased judiciary, free from discrimination or favoritism. The judges, in turn, expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to serve and appreciated the swift action taken by the governor to rectify the situation.
