Obaseki frustrating peaceful transfer of power in Edo — Okpebholo

The Governor-elect of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has accused the current Governor, Godwin Obaseki, of obstructing a smooth transition of power before his inauguration. Okpebholo’s media aide, Godspower Inegbe, released a statement criticizing Obaseki’s claims that he had not been invited to the swearing-in ceremony.

Obaseki had voiced concerns that the governor-elect and the All Progressives Congress were organizing the inauguration without involving the state government. He labeled the planned event as unlawful.

In response, Okpebholo rebuked Obaseki’s statements as irresponsible, questioning why the current governor had not reached out to congratulate him since the election results were announced.

Okpebholo dismissed Obaseki’s allegations of not receiving an invitation to the upcoming inauguration as baseless, emphasizing that Obaseki had been making efforts to impede a peaceful handover of power since the election outcome.

He urged the people of Edo State to ignore Obaseki’s remarks and show their support for the incoming administration. Okpebholo also noted Obaseki’s absence from the Government House in the days leading up to his official departure from office.
