Palace renovation: Court rules on suit against Bayero Oct 10

In a recent development, a Kano State High Court has scheduled October 10, 2024, as the date for a ruling on an application seeking to prevent renovations on the Nasarawa mini palace, where the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has been residing since his deposition on May 25, 2024.

The applicants in the case include the Kano State Government, the Attorney General of Kano, and the Kano Emirate Council, with the sole respondent being the deposed Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero.

Counsel representing the applicants, Rilwanu Umar (SAN), submitted a motion ex parte on September 12, requesting an order to halt Ado-Bayero from renovating the Nasarawa mini palace. During the recent court session, Habib Akilu, representing the applicants, informed the court that the defendant was absent, and proceeded to present an interlocutory application to prevent any reconstruction or alteration of the mini palace.

The presiding judge, Justice Dije Aboki, set the next court date for October 10, 2024, for a ruling and the mention of the main lawsuit. Justice Aboki instructed that all court processes should be displayed on the court’s notice board.

Previously, on September 13, 2024, the court had issued an interim injunction preventing the deposed Emir from renovating or repairing the mini palace until the case is fully heard and determined. The court emphasized the importance of maintaining the current structural and architectural state of the palace until a final decision is reached in the legal proceedings.
