Police bust Yobe ATM fraud syndicate, recover 48 cards

The Yobe State Police Command recently apprehended a group of criminals who had been targeting unsuspecting Automated Teller Machine users in the state. The State Intelligence Department arrested three suspects involved in the scam. The suspects would deceive ATM users by pretending to offer help, tricking them into revealing their PINs, and then swapping their cards to steal money from their accounts.

A press release from the state Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the arrests and detailed the recovery of 47 ATM cards, four cellphones, and a Mercedes-Benz vehicle from the suspects. Victims, including a visually impaired person who lost N181,550, positively identified the suspects. The Commissioner of Police has instructed detectives to intensify efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate who are still on the run.

The Commissioner assured the public that criminal activities will not be tolerated in Yobe State and urged residents to report any suspicious behavior. To prevent future incidents, the police shared safety tips for ATM users, such as staying alert, choosing secure ATM locations, covering the keypad when entering PINs, and keeping the card secure.

By following these safety measures, individuals can protect themselves from falling victim to ATM fraud.
