The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, Engr. Adedeji Ashiru, expressed confidence that the issue of hunger in the nation will soon be a thing of the past. He highlighted the efforts being made to address food insecurity, particularly through training sessions for Southwest farmers in irrigation farming.
Ashiru emphasized the commitment to ending food scarcity and enhancing agricultural practices in the country. He mentioned that the training program for 200 farmers was part of the government’s initiatives to create jobs and boost food production in the agricultural sector.
During the training, Ashiru explained the importance of organized groups of farmers and equitable water management in improving agricultural productivity. He also mentioned the collaboration with the Ogun State government to support farmers with necessary resources after the training.
The Ogun Commissioner for Agriculture, represented by the Director of Agriculture at the Ministry, highlighted the benefits of irrigation farming in ensuring year-round farming and increasing food supply for the state and the nation. The initiative by O-ORBDA aligns with the state government’s focus on food security and contributes to efforts in addressing hunger in Nigeria.
