A significant development occurred at a university in Rivers State as the Governor awarded scholarships to 100 students. The institution, located in Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local Government Area, began operations following the tragic passing of its founder, Dr. Herbert Wigwe, former CEO of Access Holdings Limited. The governor reassured that the late philanthropist’s vision for the university would be upheld by the state government.
There were concerns about the university’s future after Dr. Wigwe’s demise, but these were dispelled as academic activities commenced. The state’s commitment to the institution’s success was reaffirmed during the official opening ceremony, where the government praised the curriculum and potential impact of the university.
A total of 100 students were recently granted scholarships, with 70% allocated to Rivers State indigenes and 30% to non-indigenous residents. The emphasis was on inclusivity and sustaining the late founder’s vision for the university’s growth and excellence.
The Acting Vice Chancellor highlighted the university’s dedication to fostering future leaders and prosperity in Africa, in line with Dr. Wigwe’s principles. Wigwe University aims to be a leading institution on the continent, nurturing thoughtful and fearless individuals for the benefit of society.
